Himanta Biswa Sarma to Take Oath as Assam Chief Minister for Second Consecutive Term
A New Chapter in Assam Politics
A significant event is set to unfold in Assam's political landscape as Himanta Biswa Sarma, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), prepares to take the oath of office as the Chief Minister for the second consecutive time. This moment marks a historic milestone, as Sarma becomes the first Chief Minister from a party other than Congress to achieve this feat in Assam's history.
He will be sworn in alongside four ministers, including two from the BJP and one each from its allied parties, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF). Assam's Governor, Laxman Prasad Acharya, will administer the oath to the Chief Minister and the new cabinet members at 11:40 AM on Tuesday.
Third NDA Government in Assam
This will be the third NDA government led by Sarma as Chief Minister, making him the only leader from a party other than Congress to achieve this milestone in the state. He has also announced the names of the four ministers who will take the oath alongside him.
The Four Ministers Taking Oath Today
Rameshwar Teli: A former Union Minister of State, Teli has returned to state politics ahead of the 2026 elections, defeating Congress candidate Dhruv Gogoi by a decisive margin of 10,459 votes in the Duliajan assembly constituency.

The oath-taking ceremony will see the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with several senior central ministers. Additionally, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from BJP and NDA-ruled states are expected to attend.
Leaders from outside the NDA coalition, including the Chief Minister of Mizoram, will also grace the occasion. The ceremony will take place at the Khanapara Veterinary College grounds, where extensive arrangements have been made to accommodate thousands of attendees.
