Himachal Pradesh to Showcase Cultural Heritage on Republic Day

Shimla: After a six-year hiatus, Himachal Pradesh is set to present its cultural and martial heritage at the Republic Day parade on January 26 at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. The tableau, which highlights the state's rich tradition of valor, has received final approval from the committee established by the Union Ministry of Defence.

With the necessary clearance secured, the Himachal Pradesh Language, Art and Culture Department has commenced preparations for the tableau and has invited tenders for its design and execution. On Republic Day, Kartavya Path, a symbol of India's military prowess, cultural diversity, and heroic traditions, will once again celebrate Himachal's narrative of bravery.

Tableau to Celebrate Himachal's Valor

The tableau will illustrate the state's remarkable 'veer gatha', showcasing Himachal Pradesh's vital contributions to the nation's defense forces. Known as both Devbhoomi and Veerbhoomi, this hill state has a rich history of courage and sacrifice.

The story of valor will commence with Major Somnath Sharma, the first recipient of the Param Vir Chakra in India. Himachal Pradesh has produced four Param Vir Chakra awardees, along with numerous Ashok and Mahavir Chakra recipients. The tableau will feature visuals of these gallantry award winners, set against the stunning backdrop of snow-capped mountains.

Military Honors as Central Theme

Officials have stated that the tableau will display photographs and representations of Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, and Mahavir Chakra awardees from the state, emphasizing Himachal's deep-rooted connection to India's military history. The tales of bravery from this region have long been integral to the legacy of the armed forces.

Himachal Pradesh has previously participated in the Republic Day parade multiple times, with each tableau reflecting a unique cultural or regional theme:

State's Pride in 'Veer Naman' Theme

“This year, we have received approval to present Veerbhoomi Himachal in the Republic Day parade under the theme ‘Veer Naman’. It is a significant source of pride for the state,” stated an official from the Language, Art and Culture Department.

Himachal Pradesh's soldiers have been awarded 1,203 gallantry medals, including four Param Vir Chakras, two Ashok Chakras, and ten Mahavir Chakras, reflecting the state's enduring legacy of bravery and sacrifice. With its return to the national stage, Himachal's tableau is anticipated to pay a heartfelt tribute to the valor of its soldiers while reaffirming the state's unique position in India's cultural and military landscape.
