In accordance with directives from the Himachal Pradesh Government, a review meeting for the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) took place today at the Superintendent of Police’s office in Nurpur. The meeting was led by the Superintendent of Police and included participation from senior officials across various sectors, including police, administration, health, education, excise, and de-addiction centers, both in-person and via video link.

Highlights from the Meeting:

  • Monitoring Sensitive Areas: A total of 22 panchayats identified as highly sensitive will be closely monitored. All Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) have been instructed to oversee Narcotics Control Committee (NNC) meetings and confirm member attendance.

  • Field Oversight: To date, 64 NNC meetings have been held in the district. SDMs and Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs) are required to attend these meetings to bolster local efforts.

  • Awareness Campaigns for Youth: Schools are actively conducting lectures and poster-making contests to raise awareness among students. Updates on these initiatives will be shared within the NCORD group.

  • Action by the Forest Department: The Forest Department has been tasked with locating and eliminating naturally occurring cannabis plants. Individuals caught cultivating cannabis for commercial use will face severe legal repercussions.

  • Drug-Free Campus Initiative: Educational institutions are urged to enhance security measures. Any drug or tobacco-related incidents occurring within 100 meters of a government facility will prompt immediate police intervention.

The Superintendent also announced that, following decisions made in the state-level NCORD meeting, a special campaign titled “Anti-Chitta Drive” will be launched across Himachal Pradesh from June 1 to August 15, 2026. This initiative aims to intensify ground-level actions against narcotics.

The Police District of Nurpur reiterated its dedication to the state's vision of a drug-free society, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among various departments to achieve this objective.
