Highlights of the Proposed Amendment
- Exclusion of Drug Traffickers Individuals convicted in drug trafficking cases will be barred from running for Panchayat positions. If a candidate is found guilty after being elected, their membership will be revoked.
- Emphasis on Financial Responsibility Those who have defaulted on loans from cooperative banks or have unresolved financial issues related to Panchayat audits will not be eligible to contest. This measure aims to enhance accountability and financial integrity at the local level.
- Adjustment in Gram Sabha Attendance Requirements The previous requirement of 25% family attendance for Gram Sabha meetings will be reduced to 10% of registered voters.
