Himachal Pradesh Government to Settle Pensioners' Medical Bills Promptly

In a significant move, the Himachal Pradesh government has committed to settling all outstanding medical reimbursement bills for pensioners within a month. This decision follows a meeting with the Joint Action Committee (JAC) after a protest rally where pensioners voiced their concerns over delayed payments. Many retirees have been waiting for revised payments related to various allowances and reimbursements for over three years. The Chief Minister has directed relevant departments to expedite the process, ensuring that senior citizens receive their dues promptly, alleviating their financial strain.

Government Commitment to Pensioners

Shimla: The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, announced on Monday, December 8, 2025, that the state government will resolve all outstanding medical reimbursement claims for pensioners within the next month. This announcement followed a meeting with representatives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of pensioners.

The commitment comes in response to a protest rally organized by the JAC on November 28 in Dharamshala, coinciding with the Assembly session. During this rally, pensioners expressed their concerns and called for an urgent meeting of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) to tackle their long-standing issues.

As per the committee's report, numerous pensioners who retired between January 1, 2016, and January 31, 2021, have yet to receive updated payments related to leave encashment, commutation, gratuity, a 13 percent dearness allowance, and medical reimbursements that have been pending for three years.

While JAC representatives appreciated the government's decision, they emphasized the need for prompt action, highlighting that delays in payments have placed significant financial burdens on senior citizens reliant on timely reimbursements. The Chief Minister has instructed the relevant departments to accelerate the process and ensure all dues are cleared within the promised timeframe.
