SHIMLA: In a notable decision, the government led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has suspended IPS officer SP Rajesh Verma, who was serving in the Department of Telecommunications and Technical Services in Shimla. This action was confirmed by officials from the state Home Department, citing an ongoing disciplinary inquiry against him.
The suspension, which is effective immediately, was issued under the Central Civil Services Rules of 1965. During this period, Verma is required to remain at the Himachal Pradesh Police Headquarters in Shimla and cannot leave without obtaining prior approval from the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh.
Directive from Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta
The suspension order was issued by Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, with copies sent to relevant authorities for further action.
It is quite rare for an officer of the SP rank to be suspended in Himachal Pradesh. In recent years, only a handful of such suspensions have occurred. Notably, Kullu SP Gaurav Singh was suspended after the infamous “slap incident,” and IG Zahoor Zaidi faced suspension following his arrest in the Kotkhai Gudiya death case.
With the suspension of SP Rajesh Verma, the Sukhu administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict administrative discipline within the police force.
