The Himachal Pradesh government has initiated a major administrative reshuffle aimed at bolstering the police force and enhancing internal capabilities. This involves the transfer and appointment of four senior IPS officers, prominently featuring IG Zahoor Zaidi, whose career has been under scrutiny due to his long-standing involvement in the notorious Gudiya rape and murder case.

Zahoor Zaidi Assigned to Police Training and Research Wing

Inspector General Zahoor Zaidi has been reassigned to the Police Training and Research Wing at the Police Academy in Shimla. This strategic move is attributed to Zaidi's vast investigative background and comprehensive institutional knowledge.

Zaidi has faced intense public scrutiny for nearly five years regarding the 2017 Gudiya case in Shimla, which significantly impacted public trust and led to widespread protests. The investigation was fraught with complications, including allegations of custodial death and evidence mishandling, culminating in a CBI inquiry. His involvement during this tumultuous period has made his new role particularly noteworthy.

Officials believe that Zaidi's extensive experience will be beneficial in training new officers, particularly in criminal investigations, crisis management, and maintaining procedural integrity.

Changes in Law & Order and Traffic Management

In another significant adjustment, DIG Gurdev Chand Sharma has transitioned from the Traffic, Tourist, and Railway wing to oversee Law and Order. This change is timely as the state prepares for the tourist season, necessitating effective internal security measures.

Succeeding him, DIG Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi has been appointed to lead the Traffic, Tourist, and Railway division, with expectations of improving traffic control and ensuring tourist safety in busy districts.

New Commandant for IRB Battalion

Furthermore, IPS officer Amit Yadav has been designated as the Commandant of the 2nd Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) located in Sakoh, Kangra district. This appointment is crucial for enhancing the operational readiness of reserve forces in the area.
