Commercial LPG Shortage in Himachal Pradesh

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, has reported a slight shortage of commercial LPG in the state's hotels and restaurants. Speaking to reporters in Shimla on Thursday, he mentioned that he plans to engage with the Ministry of Petroleum, which operates under the central government, to address this issue.

Collaboration with Central Government

Several state governments are working alongside the central government to ensure a sufficient supply of LPG cylinders for both domestic and commercial needs. Previously, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had written to the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, requesting adequate allocation and availability of commercial LPG and auto LPG for Karnataka. This correspondence followed the arrival of two Indian vessels, Shivalik and Nanda Devi, carrying approximately 92,712 metric tons of LPG after crossing the Hormuz Strait.

Safety Measures and Energy Supply Initiatives

Additionally, an Indian tanker named Jag Ladki, loaded with about 80,886 metric tons of crude oil, recently reached Gujarat. The safe return of these tankers to India has been ensured amid regional tensions. Under Operation Sankalp, India maintains a continuous naval presence in the area. In response to ongoing energy supply concerns in the Middle East, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has initiated measures to promote the use of piped natural gas (PNG) across the country and expand urban gas infrastructure. The government is particularly encouraging commercial LPG users in major cities and urban areas to adopt PNG.
