Himachal Pradesh Experiences Significant Drop in Night Temperatures

Himachal Pradesh is experiencing a significant drop in night temperatures, particularly in higher regions like Lahaul-Spiti, where Tabo recorded a chilling -8°C. As dense fog blankets the plains, visibility is reduced, adding to the winter discomfort. A weak western disturbance is expected to bring light rain and snowfall on December 5 and 7, while temperatures are likely to remain low. With many towns reporting temperatures below 5°C, the cold wave is set to intensify. Stay tuned for more updates on this evolving weather situation.

Severe Cold Grips Higher Regions

Himachal Pradesh is currently undergoing a notable shift in weather patterns, with night temperatures consistently falling in the higher altitudes. The chill has intensified in Lahaul-Spiti, where nighttime temperatures have plummeted. On Tuesday, Tabo recorded the season's lowest temperature at -8°C, marking the coldest night to date. As temperatures drop, several natural water sources in the Lahaul valley are beginning to freeze, indicating the deeper arrival of winter.

Dense Fog Affects Visibility in Plains

In contrast, dense fog has enveloped parts of the plains, including Bilaspur, Sundernagar, and Mandi, leading to reduced visibility and increasing winter discomfort. Many areas across the state have already reported minimum temperatures falling below 5°C, with 16 towns recording temperatures under this threshold. Cold wave conditions are anticipated to worsen as the week continues.

Upcoming Weather Changes

A weak western disturbance is expected to pass through the western Himalayan region starting December 5, which may change weather conditions in the mid and higher hills. According to the Meteorological Centre in Shimla, light rain or snowfall is anticipated in isolated areas of Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti on December 5 and 7. Aside from this brief weather event, the remainder of the week is likely to remain dry.

Temperature Forecast

Minimum temperatures are not expected to fluctuate significantly in the next 24 hours, although a slight increase may occur over the following two to three days. Fog is also predicted to persist in parts of Bilaspur and Mandi during the early hours of December 3 and 4. On Tuesday, temperatures continued to decline across the state, with Shimla recording a minimum of 5°C, Sundernagar at 3.7°C, Bhuntar at 3°C, and Kalpa at 0°C. Other notable temperatures included Una at 5.2°C, Nahan at 10.3°C, Palampur at 4°C, Solan at 2.4°C, Manali at 2.7°C, Kangra at 5.5°C, and Mandi at 5.1°C.
