The Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) marked its 43rd Foundation Day at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium in Amter, bringing together officials, players, coaches, and cricket enthusiasts to celebrate the association's extensive history.

Sumeet Sharma, a former secretary and executive member of HPCA, served as the chief guest for the event. In his speech, he reminisced about the evolution of cricket in Himachal Pradesh and acknowledged the significant contributions of former HPCA president Anurag Thakur in enhancing the association's infrastructure.

Sharma noted that since its inception in 1984, the association has experienced remarkable growth, particularly after Thakur assumed leadership in 2000. He emphasized the establishment of key cricket facilities, including the international stadium in Dharamshala and grounds in Luhnu, Bilaspur, and Amter, Nadaun.

He further explained that this growth extended beyond infrastructure, fostering a larger pool of players and bolstering the support staff involved in the sport. As a result, Himachal Pradesh has successfully hosted numerous international matches in Dharamshala, while the Amter ground remains a venue for national-level cricket events.

The contributions of IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal towards the advancement of cricket in Himachal Pradesh were also recognized during the celebration.

The event included reflections on the association's formative years, recalling its first Ranji Trophy match in 1985. Prem Thakur, president of the District Cricket Association and a former player, shared his experiences from that era of Himachal cricket.

The 43rd Foundation Day celebration highlighted the accomplishments of Himachal players, the enhancement of cricket facilities, and initiatives aimed at nurturing emerging talent.

In recognition of their hard work, curator Sanjay Thakur ‘Tinka’ and the ground staff were honored for their dedication to maintaining the cricket ground and facilitating matches and tournaments.

District president Prem Thakur welcomed the chief guest and emphasized the association's 43-year journey, characterized by the development of cricket infrastructure, opportunities for players, and the ongoing growth of the sport throughout Himachal Pradesh.

The event was attended by officials, former and current players, coaches, and various members of the cricket community.
