He has previously held the position of State President of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) in Himachal Pradesh for two terms. Thakur has also been assigned responsibilities across various states such as Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, especially during critical Assembly and Parliamentary elections. His strategic involvement in election preparations has been a notable asset to the party.

Importantly, Yadopati Thakur has longstanding ties with the Virbhadra Singh family and is regarded as a close ally of Vikramaditya Singh, highlighting his strong political connections within the party's established leadership in the region.
