Himachal Pradesh CM Honors Rajiv Gandhi on Death Anniversary

On May 21, 2025, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary in Shimla. Sukhu highlighted Gandhi's contributions to the nation and announced various initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities, including the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School Yojana and the Swarozgar Start-Up Yojana. The Chief Minister also led a pledge for national unity and integration, honoring Gandhi's legacy of service and commitment to the country.
 

Tributes Paid to Rajiv Gandhi in Shimla


SHIMLA: On May 21, 2025, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh commemorated the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Shimla. He paid his respects by garlanding Gandhi's statue at Sadbhawana Chowk in Chhota Shimla.


During a media interaction, Sukhu emphasized the current government's dedication to fulfilling Rajiv Gandhi's vision, particularly in uplifting marginalized communities within the state.


Reflecting on Gandhi's significant contributions, Sukhu noted that he sacrificed his life for the nation's unity and integrity, establishing a foundation for transformative initiatives that fostered national progress and prosperity.


The Chief Minister highlighted that Rajiv Gandhi was instrumental in initiating the information technology revolution in India, which continues to benefit the current generation. He also mentioned the constitutional amendment that ensured 33 percent reservation for women in local governance.


To enhance educational standards, Sukhu announced the introduction of the Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding School Yojana, aimed at establishing schools with modern facilities in every Assembly constituency to support students from rural areas.


Additionally, the government is rolling out the Rajiv Gandhi Swarozgar Start-Up Yojana, which provides loans to youth for starting their businesses, including a 50 percent subsidy for purchasing e-taxis for unemployed individuals.


On this occasion, the Chief Minister led a pledge for national unity and integration. He also paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi at the HP Secretariat and administered an anti-terrorism oath to government officials.


Among those who paid their respects were Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, PCC chief Pratibha Singh, and various other dignitaries, including ministers and local leaders.
