Potential Changes in Himachal Pradesh Cabinet

On Friday, Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh indicated that a reshuffle in the state cabinet might occur in the near future. This statement was made during a conversation with reporters after his return from Delhi.

During his visit to the capital, Sukhu met with several central ministers. He mentioned that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assured him that a region-specific approach would be considered while finalizing fiscal decentralization, grants, and disaster management frameworks.

This initiative aims to ensure that mountainous states like Himachal Pradesh receive adequate support to address their developmental needs and challenges related to disaster resilience.

Sukhu also noted that Sitharaman promised to consider the state's request for financial assistance by allowing additional borrowing equivalent to two percent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), while also taking into account the interests of local orchard owners.

Furthermore, Sukhu emphasized that he strongly raised the issue of apple imports from New Zealand with the Finance Minister, highlighting the potential adverse effects on local orchardists.
