In a pivotal move, the Himachal Pradesh Cabinet has sanctioned the Policy for Regularisation of Certain Encroachments on Government Land, 2026, offering much-needed relief to approximately 70 families residing in Gaggal.

These families have occupied shamlat land for nearly seventy years and were at risk of being displaced due to the planned expansion of Gaggal Airport. The newly introduced policy now secures their homes and future.

Local Panchayat leaders, including Pradhan Damini Kashyap and Up-Pradhan Ravindra Baba, praised the decision as transformative for residents who were previously facing an uncertain future. They highlighted that without this regularization, many families would have faced homelessness.

Residents convened at the Azradha Krishna Mandir Meeting Hall to express their appreciation to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and the state government. They acknowledged that the policy is in line with directives from the Supreme Court and has reignited their hopes for ownership rights over the land they have inhabited for generations.

The announcement has brought immense joy to the long-standing residents of Gaggal, who now envision a future with legal recognition of their homes and enhanced security for their families.
