Shimla: The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) has welcomed architect Nand Lal Chandel as a new member of its National Council for the term spanning 2026 to 2028, marking a notable achievement for Himachal Pradesh at the national level.

This appointment is viewed as a pivotal moment for the state's architectural community, coinciding with the 109-year history of the IIA, which is recognized as the leading professional organization for architects in India. Chandel has previously led the IIA Himachal Pradesh Chapter for two consecutive terms, from 2020 to 2023 and again from 2023 to 2026. His extensive experience includes serving as the Architect-in-Chief for the Public Works Department of Himachal Pradesh and being a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of Architecture.

Throughout his leadership in the state chapter, Chandel prioritized uniting architects from government sectors, private practices, and educational institutions. He also promoted increased engagement from young architects and students in professional events, aiming to enhance collaboration within the community.
