High Court Orders Investigation into Rahul Gandhi's Dual Citizenship Allegations

The Allahabad High Court has ordered an investigation into allegations that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi holds dual citizenship. This decision follows a petition from a BJP worker, leading to the court's directive for the Uttar Pradesh government to either conduct the inquiry or assign it to a central agency. Additionally, a special court in Sultanpur has warned the plaintiff in a defamation case against Gandhi to avoid further delays, emphasizing the need for timely proceedings. The next hearing is set for April 22, where the court will address the ongoing issues surrounding the case.

Court Directs Inquiry into Allegations Against Rahul Gandhi

The Allahabad High Court stated on Friday that it is essential to investigate the claims regarding Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's dual citizenship. The court instructed the Uttar Pradesh government to either conduct the inquiry themselves or assign it to a central agency, while also ordering the registration of an FIR against the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha. This ruling came during the hearing of a petition filed by BJP worker S. Vignesh Shishir, who challenged an order issued by a special MP/MLA court in Lucknow on January 28. The lower court had dismissed his plea for filing an FIR against the Congress leader.

Court Issues Warning to Plaintiff in Defamation Case

Earlier, a special court in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, took a stern stance during the hearing of a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, advising the plaintiff's side to avoid any further delays. Kashi Prasad Shukla, representing Gandhi, mentioned that a petition under Section 311 of the Criminal Procedure Code was to be debated, but the plaintiff's lawyer requested yet another adjournment, which the court granted along with a significant directive.

Shukla noted that the plaintiff's side has been consistently seeking adjournments for several hearings, hindering the progress of the case. Taking this seriously, the court made it clear that if the plaintiff's side fails to appear for the next hearing, they could face punitive action. The next hearing is scheduled for April 22. Previously, during a hearing on March 28 in the MP-MLA court, the complainant's lawyer requested a sample of Rahul Gandhi's voice for examination, submitting a petition under Section 311 read with Section 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
