MANDI:

A serious rafting incident was averted on Monday evening near Bhuntar in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, when a raft carrying tourists became ensnared in the turbulent waters of the Beas River. Thanks to the prompt actions of district officials and emergency responders, all individuals on board were safely rescued.

According to officials, the raft lost control due to the river's strong currents, causing panic among the tourists. Upon receiving alerts, teams from the Kullu police and trained rescue personnel quickly arrived at the scene. With nightfall approaching, the rescue operation was prioritized, ensuring that all stranded tourists were safely extracted from the river and relocated to a secure area.

Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S Ravish confirmed that there were no reported injuries from the incident. She emphasized that the vigilance of the rescue teams and their coordinated efforts played a crucial role in preventing a major catastrophe.

Raft Operator's Negligence Raises Concerns

Preliminary investigations suggest that the rafting operator did not comply with essential safety regulations required for water sports. Conducting rafting activities during the evening, when visibility is limited, violates established safety protocols. This oversight put the tourists at significant risk.

The district administration is taking this issue seriously and has initiated action against the operator involved. An FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the Water Sports Rules, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.

Warnings Issued for Safety Violations

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that ensuring tourist safety is paramount, and any breach of safety regulations will result in severe consequences. Operators who violate these rules may face license revocation and legal action.

Additionally, the Kullu administration has released new advisories for all adventure sports operators, instructing them to conduct activities only during designated hours and under suitable weather conditions. Tourists are also encouraged to choose registered operators and trained guides when engaging in adventure sports.
