In March, the tribal area of Bharmour has been hit by significant snowfall, raising alarms about potential disruptions to everyday activities. With school examinations currently taking place and most educational institutions operational, officials are emphasizing the importance of heightened vigilance, particularly for students commuting from remote locations.
Challenges for Students in High-Altitude Areas
In elevated regions like Kugti, Badgram, Holi, and other remote tribal villages, numerous students trek considerable distances to attend school. The months of February and March typically see an uptick in snowfall, which heightens the risk of avalanches and glacier slides in these mountainous areas.
Safety Measures and Advisory from Authorities
In response to the situation, the Bharmour administration has released a safety advisory for the community. Acting Additional District Magistrate Vikas Sharma has urged residents to take extra precautions during these adverse weather conditions. He has requested locals to refrain from unnecessary travel to high-altitude regions and to avoid areas near riverbanks and streams, where the risk of avalanches is particularly high.
Sharma highlighted that ensuring safety should be the primary concern during such weather events. He recommended that residents stay indoors as much as possible and adhere strictly to the guidelines provided by the administration to avert any unfortunate incidents.
