Forecast of Heavy Rain in West Bengal

A low-pressure system is anticipated to form over the Gangetic region of West Bengal, potentially leading to significant rainfall in various parts of the state, as reported by the meteorological department on Saturday.

Areas in Purulia, Jhargram, and West Medinipur are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with accumulations ranging from 7 to 20 centimeters.

Additionally, districts such as West Bardhaman, East Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, and Bankura may see rainfall between 7 to 11 centimeters. The forecast indicates that the formation of a low-pressure area along the Ganges coastal region, combined with a strong monsoon flow, will contribute to these heavy rainfall events.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also warned of heavy rainfall in parts of the sub-Himalayan districts, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Cooch Behar, expected until July 10.

In Bashirhat, located in North 24 Parganas district, 102 millimeters of rain was recorded, marking the highest rainfall in the state over a 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on Saturday.
