Heavy Rain Forecast Across 13 States in India
IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across 13 states on May 17 and 18. The states under alert include Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tripura, West Bengal, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Telangana. Additionally, Bihar is expected to experience heavy rainfall on May 18. Over the next week, light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, and lightning are anticipated in northeastern India. Heavy rainfall is forecasted for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya from May 17 to 21, with Tripura also expecting significant rain on May 17 and 18.
Relief from Heat for Delhi Residents
Residents of the national capital may find some respite from the heat. According to meteorologist Srivastava, thunderstorms are expected in Delhi today and tomorrow, potentially bringing light rain that could lower temperatures to around 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. Concerns are rising regarding heatwaves affecting several northern states amid changing weather patterns.
Increase in Hospital Admissions in Moradabad
In Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, the rising temperatures have led to an uptick in hospital admissions. Senior medical advisor V. Singh reported that children are being admitted with ailments such as typhoid, fever, diarrhea, cold, and cough.
Rain Follows Dust Storm in Delhi
Following a dust storm, Delhi experienced rain on Friday, accompanied by strong winds and cloud cover. Reports indicate rainfall in various areas, including Narela, Bawana, Burari, Rohini, Karawal Nagar, Delhi University, Mundka, Punjabi Bagh, Kashmiri Gate, Budh Jayanti Park, ITO, Jafarpur, Najafgarh, Delhi Cantonment, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). The primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 1.4 mm of rain between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM. Other areas reported varying amounts of rainfall, including 7.2 mm in Aaya Nagar, 3 mm in Ridge, 2.5 mm in Pusa, and 2 mm in Pitampura.
Severe Heat Warning in Uttar Pradesh
In Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, temperatures soared to 46.2 degrees Celsius on Friday, marking the highest in the country. The IMD has issued heat warnings for several regions in Uttar Pradesh. Scientist Atul Kumar Singh from IMD confirmed that Banda recorded the highest temperature nationwide. The department noted that many areas in the state experienced temperatures reaching 45 degrees Celsius on Friday, with extreme heat conditions expected to persist until Sunday.
