Heavy Rain Causes Landslide Disruption in Uttarakhand's Kedarnath Region
Severe Weather Impacts Uttarakhand's Hill Areas
Uttarakhand is currently experiencing intense rainfall in its mountainous regions, leading to increased difficulties for residents. The relentless downpour continues in Rudraprayag district and around Kedarnath. Notably, a significant landslide occurred near a location called Munkhatiya, close to Sonprayag. This landslide has obstructed a section of the main highway to Kedarnath, causing a partial halt to vehicular movement. In response, local authorities have taken the situation seriously and have initiated prompt action to clear the debris.
Efforts Underway to Clear the Road at Munkhatiya
At Munkhatiya, near Gaurikund, a large amount of soil, stones, and boulders have fallen onto the road, completely blocking the highway. The district administration has swiftly deployed heavy machinery and JCBs to clear the road. The operation to remove the debris is being conducted at an accelerated pace.
Statement from Disaster Management Officer
Nandan Singh Rajwar, the disaster management officer, stated, "The road at Munkhatiya is indeed closed, but JCB machines are actively working there. We are making every effort to reopen this route for vehicles as soon as possible."
