Flooding in Mandi District Due to Heavy Rain

In the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, the water level of the Beas River has risen significantly due to ongoing heavy rainfall. Drone footage captured over the weekend shows the river's increased flow and rapid currents. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives in a sudden flood near the Manuni River, with six others reported missing. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has arrived in Dharamshala to assist with rescue operations.

On Wednesday, a cloudburst in the Sainj Valley of Kullu led to flash flooding that damaged a temporary shed associated with a private power project and an emergency response vehicle.

Decrease in Rainfall Brings Some Relief

Fortunately, the rainfall has decreased over the past 24 hours, resulting in a reduction of water flow in the river. This has allowed the water level at the Pandoh Dam to gradually decrease, providing some relief to local residents and authorities. Following the heavy rains and rising water levels, two bodies were recovered near the Manuni River in Kangra district. Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa confirmed the incident and stated that rescue operations are ongoing to locate the missing individuals.

The Deputy Commissioner mentioned, 'We have recovered two bodies. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), and district officials are on-site. We are counting the missing persons. We await further information. The situation is not as severe as reported.' This incident occurred near a small hydropower project located at the confluence of several streams, where the water level surged unexpectedly due to heavy rainfall.
