Monsoon Activity Intensifies in Rajasthan
Jaipur: The monsoon has once again become highly active in Rajasthan, leading to significant disruptions in daily life across various districts. The most pressing concern is in Dholpur, where the water level of the Chambal River surged nearly 30 feet in just one day, approaching danger levels. Meanwhile, Udaipur recorded rainfall of up to 7 inches, and in Jaipur, a private bus overturned amid waterlogging.
Chambal River Swells in Dholpur
The continuous rainfall has visibly impacted the Chambal River, with its water level rising rapidly in Dholpur. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised residents living near the river to remain vigilant. Special attention is being given to low-lying areas due to the increasing water levels.
Udaipur Experiences Significant Rainfall
In the last 24 hours, the Semari region of Udaipur district recorded the highest rainfall at 185 mm (approximately 7 inches). Other areas such as Salumber received 143 mm, Lasadiya 133 mm, Jhadol 123 mm, and both Jhalda and Phalasia recorded 115 mm each. The heavy rains have caused waterlogging in several rural areas.
Conditions Deteriorate in Jaipur
On Wednesday, Jaipur experienced continuous rainfall for about four hours, leading to flooded streets and significant traffic jams. In the Jaysinghpura Khor area, a private bus overturned after one of its wheels got stuck in a water-filled pothole. At the time of the incident, there were 15 to 20 passengers on board, with some sustaining minor injuries but later being discharged after first aid.
Rain Alert Issued Across the State
The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for all districts in Rajasthan. According to weather scientists, the active low-pressure system in the northwestern part of Madhya Pradesh is expected to continue bringing rainfall to most parts of the state. A decrease in rainfall activities is anticipated in western Rajasthan starting August 14.
Drop in Temperature Observed
Due to the ongoing rains, several districts in the state have recorded a drop in daytime temperatures ranging from 2 to 5 degrees Celsius. Areas like Udaipur, Jodhpur, Dungarpur, Bhilwara, and Sirohi are experiencing pleasant weather. This rainfall has provided relief to farmers and water bodies alike.
Authorities on High Alert, Public Advised to Exercise Caution
In light of the heavy rainfall and rising water levels, authorities have urged the public to avoid approaching rivers and streams and to heed the advice of the meteorological department. Residents near the Chambal River have been specifically instructed to stay alert.
This monsoon period in Rajasthan has brought much-needed relief to water sources, but the rising water levels in Dholpur and the incidents in Jaipur pose significant challenges for the administration.
