Head Constable Arrested in Arunachal Pradesh Drug Bust

In a significant drug bust in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, a head constable from the Indian Reserve Battalion was arrested after police discovered heroin during a vehicle search operation. The incident unfolded at the Chimpu checkpoint, where a suspicious scooter rider was stopped, leading to the swift involvement of local police authorities. The arrested individual, Jalam Wangpan, was found with approximately 7.1 grams of heroin valued at ₹30,000. Legal proceedings have commenced under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes in the region.
 

Police Operation Leads to Drug Seizure

The 'Itanagar Capital Police' initiated a vehicle search operation during a checkpoint, resulting in the arrest of a head constable from the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRBN) along with the seizure of heroin. This information was disclosed by officials on Friday.


According to the authorities, a suspicious individual riding a scooter was stopped at the Chimpu checkpoint. Following this, Itanagar's Superintendent of Police (SP) Jummar Basar was informed, who promptly directed legal action to be taken.


A special team led by Itanagar's Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kengo Dirchi arrived at the scene on Wednesday to investigate further.


The arrested individual has been identified as 44-year-old Jalam Wangpan, a resident of Pumao in Longding district and a head constable in the third battalion of the IRBN.


During the search of the scooter, approximately 7.1 grams of heroin was found, with an estimated street value of ₹30,000. The police confirmed that Wangpan has been detained, and a case has been registered against him under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Chimpu police station.
