The family of Indian judoka Harsh Singh expressed immense pride after he secured the gold medal in the men's 60 kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

In an interview at their home in Delhi, Harsh's mother, Babli Singh, shared her son's relentless dedication to judo, despite facing injuries along the way. "From a young age, my son has put in tremendous effort. He even broke a bone and was advised to quit judo due to health concerns. However, he remained steadfast in his commitment to the sport. Judo became his passion, and he immersed himself in it completely, starting at just 8 years old. Winning this medal for our country is a proud moment for us all," she remarked.

Harsh's father, Uday Bhan Singh, reflected on his son's journey with emotion, highlighting the significant influence of coach Manoj. "We found Manoj Sir, who motivated Harsh to pursue judo. His determination and hard work have always been evident. He has a natural talent for sports, excelling in wrestling and kabaddi as well. I am overjoyed by his success," he stated.

Harsh Singh achieved a remarkable victory in the men's 60 kg judo final, defeating Australia's Joshua Katz with a decisive Waza-Ari (10-0). Additionally, Asmita Dey also made headlines by winning the women's gold medal, triumphing over Canada's Heidi Quach by Yuko (2-1), marking a significant moment for Indian judo.
