Harmanpreet Kaur Shatters Records with 8th ODI Century Against Zimbabwe
Historic Performance by Harmanpreet Kaur
In Harare, seasoned Indian women's cricket player Harmanpreet Kaur made headlines by scoring a remarkable century in the second ODI against Zimbabwe. Following her decision to step down as captain, Harmanpreet has been in exceptional form, amassing 126 runs off 121 balls, including 15 boundaries. This performance allowed her to surpass former captain Mithali Raj in the record for the most centuries in women's ODI cricket for India.
Just before the tour to Zimbabwe, Harmanpreet opted to relinquish her captaincy. Under her leadership, the Indian team achieved a historic gold medal at the Asian Games, but she faced mounting pressure after a disappointing showing in the T20 World Cup. Since stepping away from the captaincy, her aggressive and familiar style of play has returned. In the ongoing series against Zimbabwe, she has scored 1, an unbeaten 91, and 126 runs in her three innings.
After completing her eighth ODI century, Harmanpreet remarked that playing in the daytime sun and adapting to the pitch conditions posed some challenges. However, her primary focus was to remain at the crease and enjoy her game. In the list of most centuries in women's ODI cricket for India, Smriti Mandhana leads with 14 centuries, while Harmanpreet Kaur has now moved to second place with 8 centuries, pushing Mithali Raj to third with 7 centuries.
