As India prepares for a crucial series against England, Kaur reflects on her journey and the confidence gained from their recent ODI World Cup victory. Kaur Approaches Significant T20I Achievement

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian women's cricket team, is on the verge of a remarkable achievement, needing just nine runs to become the second Indian woman to surpass 4,000 runs in T20 internationals. This milestone could be reached during the first T20I match against England at Chelmsford on Wednesday. Over her career spanning 195 T20I matches, Kaur has accumulated 3,991 runs in 174 innings, boasting an average of 29.78 and a strike rate of 109.82, which includes one century and 16 half-centuries, with her highest score being 103.


Currently, the leading run-scorer in women's T20I cricket is New Zealand's Suzie Bates, who has scored 4,720 runs in 183 matches and 176 innings, averaging 28.78 with a strike rate of 108.35, including one century and 28 fifties. Following her is Smriti Mandhana, Kaur's deputy, with 4,293 runs in 163 matches and 157 innings, averaging 30.23 and a strike rate of 124.65, featuring one century and 33 fifties.


In the current year, Kaur has played eight T20Is, amassing 207 runs at an average of 41.40, including a half-century and a top score of 66 in seven innings.


World Cup Aspirations and Preparations

During a pre-match press conference ahead of the first T20I against England, Harmanpreet expressed her excitement about returning to the country where she made her T20I debut, viewing it as a potential stepping stone to World Cup glory. "For any cricketer, debuting in England and then winning the World Cup there would be a dream come true. I couldn't wish for more from myself or from God. It's essential to maintain a positive mindset and consistently perform well, as that leads to results. We need to express ourselves and savor every moment on the field," she stated.


Kaur also emphasized that the team's recent success in the ODI World Cup has significantly boosted their confidence as they approach the T20 World Cup. "Winning the World Cup has instilled a lot of confidence in us. That confidence will be crucial in the upcoming T20 World Cup. We have learned how to win and perform under pressure, and those experiences will bolster our confidence in this tournament," she remarked.


She further stressed the importance of the ongoing series against England as vital preparation for the global event. "Any series leading up to a World Cup is crucial. It's beneficial to experience these conditions beforehand so we can acclimatize. Competing against England is always a challenge, and we enjoy playing in their conditions. I hope this series equips us with the confidence we need for the T20 World Cup," she added.
