Harivansh Narayan Singh Takes Oath as Rajya Sabha MP

Harivansh Narayan Singh has officially taken his oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, with significant political figures present at the ceremony. Harivansh Narayan Singh Sworn in as Rajya Sabha Member

On Friday, Harivansh Narayan Singh officially took his oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. The event was graced by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman shared details about the presence of several senior leaders at the oath-taking ceremony. Among those present were Rajya Sabha leader J.P. Nadda, Union Minister R.K. Thakur, and Arjun Ram Meghwal. Sitharaman also participated in the ceremony, marking Harivansh's formal induction as a member of the Rajya Sabha.


 


Earlier on the same day, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Harivansh Narayan Singh to the Rajya Sabha through a gazette notification. His appointment was finalized on Thursday, following the conclusion of his previous term as a JDU MP from Bihar on April 9. Harivansh has been serving as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha since 2018. The Prime Minister congratulated him on his reappointment as a member of the upper house.


 


In a post on 'X', Modi remarked that Harivansh has made invaluable contributions to journalism and public life. He is regarded as a respected intellectual and thinker, enriching the proceedings of the house with his profound insights over the years. The Prime Minister expressed his happiness over the President's decision to appoint him to the Rajya Sabha and extended his best wishes for the upcoming parliamentary term.


 


The 69-year-old leader's nomination was made under the powers conferred by Article 3, read with Clause (1) of the Constitution of India. He was appointed to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of nominated member Ranjan Gogoi. Harivansh brings extensive parliamentary experience, having served on various significant committees in the upper house, including the Agriculture Committee, Business Advisory Committee, Rules Committee, and General Purposes Committee. Additionally, he has chaired the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme Committee and the Privileges Committee.
