Inauguration of Dinesh Goswami Flyover

Guwahati, March 4:   In a significant advancement for urban infrastructure in Guwahati, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the long-anticipated Dinesh Goswami Flyover at Bharalumukh on Wednesday. This new structure is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in one of the city's most heavily trafficked areas.

The flyover spans 1.2 kilometers and was built at a cost of Rs 99 crore. It starts at Machkhowa and connects Bharalumukh with the Santipur Sluice Gate, aiming to enhance the flow of vehicles in the vicinity.

According to Sarma, the section from Santipur will feature a two-lane carriageway, while the road leading to Bharalumukh will be a single lane. The elevated return route towards Santipur will consist of one-and-a-half lanes.

He added that travelers moving from Santipur to Bharalumukh, Kamakhya, or Sukleshwar will benefit from a two-lane stretch at the midpoint.

“The design was finalized after discussions with Indian Railways, and the flyover was completed in just 15 months, which is impressive for such projects,” Sarma noted, highlighting that the initial timeline was set for 24 months.

Emphasizing the project's timely completion, he called it a landmark achievement in the city's infrastructure development.

Regarding other ongoing initiatives, the Chief Minister announced that the Chandmari Flyover is set to be inaugurated on March 10, while the Cycle Factory Flyover is expected to open before Bohag Bihu.

“Despite the Model Code of Conduct being in effect, we will proceed with the flyover openings to ensure public access during Bihu,” Sarma stated.

With several flyover projects nearing completion, the state government is focused on enhancing urban connectivity in Guwahati, aiming to ease congestion and improve travel convenience ahead of the festive season.
