With a total prize purse of ₹1.25 crore, the marathon will feature various race categories, including a full marathon, half marathon, and fun runs. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar have expressed their support for this initiative, which seeks to position Guwahati as a prominent destination for sports tourism. The marathon aims to position Guwahati and Assam as a rising hub for international sporting events. Scheduled for February 7, 2027, the marathon was officially announced at a press conference led by Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, alongside cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, who serves as a global ambassador for Indian cricket.

The event anticipates around 12,000 participants from various regions. The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) will act as the State Sponsor, enhancing the event's potential for sports tourism.
