Guwahati Railway Station Enhances Passenger Comfort with Upgraded Facilities
Upgraded Amenities at Guwahati Railway Station
Guwahati, Dec 18: In a bid to enhance passenger comfort and improve station facilities, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has recently upgraded the retiring rooms and dormitory at Guwahati railway station.
The newly improved amenities were inaugurated on Wednesday, with NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava and other senior officials in attendance.
The first-floor retiring room complex now provides a significantly better experience for travelers. It features nine retiring rooms, which include seven two-bedded and two five-bedded rooms, in addition to a dormitory with 12 beds. All rooms have been upgraded to fully air-conditioned units, furnished with more comfortable beds and enhanced interiors, creating a modern, hygienic, and convenient environment for passengers during their travels,” stated NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma.
Sharma also mentioned that this initiative is expected to significantly boost non-fare revenue for the Railways.
“With the new arrangement, NFR anticipates earning Rs 1.94 crore over the upcoming five-year contract period, without incurring any costs for maintenance, operation, or renovation. This marks a considerable improvement compared to the previous in-house management model, which involved ongoing operational expenses and lower net earnings,” he explained.
“These upgraded facilities demonstrate NFR’s commitment to enhancing passenger services through the optimal use of Railway assets and sustainable revenue growth, aligning with the broader modernization goals of Indian Railways,” he added.
To facilitate these enhancements, the management of the retiring rooms and dormitory has been outsourced through an open tender process, which includes responsibilities for renovation, upgrades, management, and maintenance. The contract spans five years, with all renovation work completed at no cost to the Railways, placing full operational responsibility on the service provider.
