Guwahati Police Initiates Case Against Journalist Abhisar Sharma for Alleged Defamation
Case Filed Against Abhisar Sharma
On Thursday, the Crime Branch of Guwahati Police took action by registering a case against journalist and YouTuber Abhisar Sharma, following a complaint from a local resident.
The FIR was lodged after Alok Baruah, a Guwahati citizen, accused Sharma of having ulterior motives aimed at discrediting the elected governments of Assam and the Union of India. He claimed that Sharma published and shared an article on YouTube that contained derogatory remarks about these governments.
The FIR cites violations under sections 152, 195, and 195 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the complainant, Sharma's article alleges that the Chief Minister of Assam engages in communal politics and fosters discord among different community groups.
The complaint further asserts that the content shared by Sharma not only ridicules but also undermines the integrity and sovereignty of India, posing a threat to national unity.
It emphasizes that Sharma's article transcends mere criticism, suggesting it incites disaffection and could provoke public unrest, thereby jeopardizing the unity and integrity of the nation.
