Guwahati Faces Cold Snap and Dense Fog as Year Ends
Severe Weather Conditions in Guwahati
Guwahati, Dec 30: As the year draws to a close, Guwahati and various regions in the state are experiencing a notable drop in temperatures, accompanied by a thick layer of fog that persists throughout the day.
On Monday, the city recorded a low of approximately 16 degrees Celsius and a high of 20 degrees Celsius.
Dibrugarh reported a minimum temperature of around 13 degrees Celsius, while Jorhat saw lows of about 12 degrees Celsius, and North Lakhimpur recorded a chilly 11 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that temperatures in Guwahati may further decrease to 12 degrees Celsius as the New Year approaches.
The dense fog during early mornings and late nights has significantly hindered vehicle movement across the state.
Conversely, many residents are embracing the winter season with campfires, picnics, and social gatherings.
The abrupt drop in temperatures has led to fewer people on the streets, with many opting to stay indoors for warmth.
Alongside the roads, several individuals were spotted gathered around makeshift fires, and overall vehicular traffic has decreased.
The thick fog has also caused disruptions in flight operations, particularly in the early hours.
Notably, a flight carrying Union Home Minister Amit Shah was canceled last night, and multiple flights experienced delays this morning.
