Gurugram Police Apprehend Ten Bangladeshi Nationals for Illegal Residency

The Gurugram Police have detained ten Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly residing illegally in the city, prompting a strong response from AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi. He condemned the actions as unjust targeting of marginalized Bengali-speaking Muslims and raised concerns about the legality of such detentions. Owaisi's statements highlight broader issues regarding police authority and the treatment of vulnerable communities in India. The situation has drawn attention to the ongoing challenges faced by individuals labeled as illegal immigrants, particularly those from impoverished backgrounds. The police have initiated deportation procedures, further complicating the matter.

Detention of Bangladeshi Nationals

On Saturday, the Gurugram Police took into custody ten individuals from Bangladesh for allegedly living in the city without legal permission. Authorities confirmed that the documents found during the operation verified their nationality.

Sandeep Kumar, the Public Relations Officer for Gurugram Police, stated, "We have detained ten individuals who are illegal Bangladeshi immigrants. Their Bangladeshi documents were recovered, and the deportation process has commenced."

AIMIM Chief's Response

Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), criticized the detention of Bengali-speaking Muslims across India. He argued that labeling these individuals as illegal immigrants is unjust, as they belong to a marginalized community that often cannot voice their concerns against police misconduct.

Owaisi also highlighted alarming reports of Indian citizens being forcibly pushed into Bangladesh. He remarked, "Reports indicate that police in various regions are unlawfully detaining Bengali-speaking Muslims, accusing them of being from Bangladesh. There are disturbing accounts of Indian nationals being sent to Bangladesh at gunpoint. This government tends to act firmly against the vulnerable while being lenient with the powerful. Many of those labeled as 'illegal immigrants' are among the poorest, including slum dwellers and domestic workers, who are repeatedly targeted due to their inability to contest police actions."

Concerns Over Police Authority

He further asserted, "Law enforcement does not possess the authority to detain individuals solely based on their language. Such broad detentions are unlawful."

Additionally, Owaisi shared a document from the Gurugram District Magistrate's office on his social media account, which he claimed outlines a standard operating procedure for the deportation of Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingya individuals.
