Gurugram Couple Arrested for Real Estate Fraud
Arrest of Real Estate Directors in Gurugram
In Gurugram, Haryana, on August 3, authorities apprehended Anubhav Sharma and his wife Mamta Sharma, directors of a real estate firm, in connection with a fraud case. They were subsequently presented in court, where they were remanded to six days of police custody, as reported by officials on Monday.
According to police reports, the couple, along with their son Dhruv Datt Sharma and Shireen Sharma, who were previously arrested, allegedly deceived numerous investors by selling properties that were already mortgaged to banks. A complaint was lodged on December 20 of the previous year by an individual who claimed that Anubhav Sharma and his associates sold a shop located in Sector 15, Gurugram, under the name '32 Milestone' to his son for approximately ₹28 lakh. The complaint alleges that the shop was sold by misrepresenting its actual area, claiming it was larger than it truly was.
The complainant further stated that the accused assured him that the shop would be leased out for an extended period, ensuring a steady rental income. Initially, the accused paid rent for a while but later ceased payments and failed to hand over actual possession of the shop. The complainant accused them of orchestrating a scheme that resulted in a fraud of around ₹28 lakh.
Based on this complaint, a case was registered at the Civil Lines police station in Gurugram under relevant sections, and the investigation was later transferred to the Economic Offences Wing-1 (EOW). During the investigation, Anubhav Sharma (65) was arrested on July 31, followed by his wife Mamta Sharma (65) on August 1 in Kolkata, West Bengal. Both were presented in court, where they were ordered to six days of police custody.
