A Milestone in Women's Safety


Gandhinagar, March 7: The '181 Abhayam' women's helpline in Gujarat has proudly completed 12 years of dedicated service, offering vital support and protection to women throughout the state.


Launched on March 8, 2015, this helpline has been instrumental in providing guidance, counseling, and rescue operations for countless women dealing with issues such as domestic violence, harassment, cybercrimes, and marital conflicts.


Official statistics reveal that over the past dozen years, the helpline has aided more than 1,810,913 women by delivering essential advice and support.


In critical situations, 109,886 women were successfully rescued and placed in safe shelters, while 229,660 cases were resolved immediately through counseling.


Officials stated, "The 181 Abhayam helpline has evolved into a strong protective barrier for women in Gujarat. Our teams have intervened in 360,964 cases, providing urgent assistance and ensuring the safety of women in distress."


This helpline operates around the clock, staffed by women police constables and trained counselors.


The state has introduced 59 modern rescue vans equipped with GPS tracking, serving as mobile safety centers, a pioneering initiative in the nation.


Technological advancements have significantly boosted the helpline's effectiveness.


The 181 mobile app features a "panic button" and a "phone shaking" option, enabling women to share their precise location with the helpline discreetly.


These innovations have enhanced response times and facilitated timely interventions during emergencies.


"The integration of technology with trained personnel guarantees that women can receive immediate assistance, even in life-threatening scenarios," an official remarked.


The helpline also offers information regarding legal rights, government programs, and support services, ensuring the confidentiality of women seeking help.


Women from other states living in Gujarat can utilize this service at no cost.


Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, the state government has positioned the helpline as a cornerstone of women's safety, ensuring that every woman in Gujarat feels secure and supported.
