Gill Attributes Win to Strong Bowling

In a commanding performance, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill praised his team's disciplined bowling and strategic execution following an impressive 82-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during their IPL 2026 match on Tuesday night. During the post-match presentation, Gill expressed confidence that a robust bowling effort would keep them competitive, especially after they set a challenging target of 168 runs.

"Our strategy paid off well. We bowled exceptionally. We were aware that if we maintained our bowling quality, we would remain in contention. We discussed that if we could reach around 160-170, it would be tough for them against our bowling lineup," Gill remarked.

The GT captain also acknowledged the vital contributions from Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, who played crucial roles in helping the team recover from early challenges to achieve a respectable total. "The way Sai and Washy (Washington) batted to bring us close to 170, along with our bowling performance in the powerplay, deserves commendation," he added.

Gill further highlighted the significance of consistency and adaptability in their approach this season. "It's all about maintaining consistency and being relentless. We don't adhere to a specific style; instead, we assess conditions and adapt our play accordingly," he stated.

Additionally, Gill praised West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder for his experience and effectiveness with the ball. "He is an incredibly seasoned player. His relentless bowling, especially four overs in a row, has been invaluable for us," Gill noted.

Rabada Reflects on Performance and Pitch Conditions

On the other side, GT fast bowler Kagiso Rabada credited his disciplined approach and effective team communication for the 82-run victory. He was awarded Player of the Match. Reflecting on a missed catch off Ishan Kishan earlier in the innings, Rabada acknowledged his misjudgment of the ball's pace but was pleased with the team's quick recovery.

"I didn't react quickly enough and misjudged the pace of the ball. Fortunately, we secured the wicket in the next over," he explained. "Every season, my goal is to perform my best. I have received support, and my role has been clear: to give everything for the team. Finding rhythm is crucial," Rabada added.

"It's about understanding the pitch conditions and adjusting our bowling accordingly. Each of us has unique strengths, and it's essential to maximize those without overthinking. If one strategy isn't working, we can pivot to another," he continued.

Rabada also mentioned that the team's strategy on the Ahmedabad pitch was to bowl with the discipline typical of Test matches, which proved effective as the pitch slowed down. "We learned how to bowl on this surface, and we aimed to replicate that. The wicket became a bit sticky, and patience along with simplicity was key," Rabada concluded.
