Gujarat Prepares for Commonwealth Games 2030 with Key Discussions

Gujarat's Vision for Commonwealth Games 2030

Deputy Chief Minister of Gujarat, Harsh Sanghvi, engaged in productive talks aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure and realizing the state's aspirations for the Commonwealth Games 2030, which will take place in Ahmedabad.


A delegation from the Commonwealth Sport team arrived in Gujarat on Wednesday, marking their initial visit since Ahmedabad was officially designated as the host city for the Centenary Games.


Meetings with State Officials

During their visit, the delegation interacted with senior officials from the state government and assessed potential venues for the upcoming Games. Their tour commenced with a welcoming meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.


Chief Minister Patel emphasized, "Gujarat is dedicated to executing the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030 through collaborative efforts, adhering to the principles of timely, qualitative, and effective planning as outlined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."


Importance of the 2030 Commonwealth Games

Dr. Donald Rukare, President of Commonwealth Sport, invited Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to the Commonwealth Games set to commence on July 23, 2026, in Glasgow.


The 2030 Commonwealth Games will commemorate the centenary of the event and are anticipated to enhance India's chances of hosting the 2036 Olympics.


The International Olympic Committee confirmed that Commonwealth Sport granted Ahmedabad the rights to host the 2030 centenary Games, recognizing the city as the venue to celebrate 100 years since the inaugural Games held in Hamilton, Canada, in 1930.


The first Commonwealth Games in 1930 featured a limited number of participating countries, while the latest Games in Birmingham, England, in 2022 saw Australia leading the medal tally, followed by England, Canada, India, and New Zealand.
