Gandhinagar, July 31: The Gujarat Police have successfully located and reunited 42 missing children with their families from July 1 to July 28, utilizing CCTV analytics, cyber tools, and digital surveillance technologies as part of the statewide initiative known as 'Operation Surakshit Cyber Space', officials reported on Friday.

One notable case involved a seventh-grade student from Khambhat in Anand district who disappeared while heading to school.

The young girl left her residence in Khodiyar Nagar Society to attend Khambhat Nagrik Sahakari Bank Primary School but failed to arrive.

Upon being notified by her class teacher, her parents contacted the Khambhat City Police.

Investigators reviewed footage from the Vishwas Phase-2 CCTV network and other digital surveillance tools, successfully locating the girl within hours. She was found with her bicycle and joyfully reunited with her family.

The police noted that the Khambhat incident was one of 42 cases where missing children were located and returned to their families during this 28-day operation, thanks to the use of cyber tools, CCTV analytics, and other technological resources.

Operation Surakshit Cyber Space was initiated under the guidance of Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, aiming to bolster cyber security and enhance the safety of women and children in the digital realm.

According to police officials, the campaign was launched under the supervision of Director General of Police (DGP), Gyanendra Singh Malik, with the goal of improving cyber awareness, enhancing the quality of cybercrime investigations, intensifying actions against cybercriminals, and focusing on the protection of women and children online.

Ajay Chaudhary, Additional Director General of Police, CID Crime (Women Cell), stated: "With the guidance of DGP G.S. Malik, Gujarat Police initiated the statewide 'Operation Surakshit Cyber Space' to enhance cyber awareness, implement preventive measures, take stringent actions against cybercriminals, and improve the quality of cybercrime investigations, particularly focusing on the safety of women and children in cyberspace. During this campaign, we successfully traced 42 missing children using cyber tools and various technological resources."

Chaudhary mentioned that the campaign was executed by CID Crime and Railways, with active involvement from police stations throughout Gujarat, under the direction of Director General of Police, CID Crime and Railways, Dr. K.L.N. Rao.

The operation was carried out in four phases.

In addition to locating missing children and enhancing cyber investigations, the campaign included public awareness initiatives, outreach sessions, and social media campaigns aimed at educating the public about online fraud, digital security practices, cyber hygiene, and responsible internet usage.

Officials emphasized that this initiative showcases the increasing reliance on technology by Gujarat Police in their efforts to trace children and enhance public safety across the state.
