Gujarat Government Supports Para-Athlete Gagdas Parmar with Financial Aid
Support for Gagdas Parmar's Athletic Journey
Para-athlete Gagdas Parmar has received substantial backing from the Gujarat government to enhance his sports career. After suffering the loss of both legs due to an electric shock incident in 2017, Gagdas was granted financial aid amounting to Rs 14 lakh through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, as directed by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
Gratitude for Government Assistance
Thanks to this support, Gagdas, who hails from Jetda village in the Vav-Tharad area of Banaskantha district, has been equipped with advanced high-speed prosthetic legs. Following the fitting of these prosthetics, he met with CM Bhupendra Patel, where he expressed his heartfelt thanks, sharing his aspiration to compete in the Olympics.
Gagdas highlighted his family's financial struggles, explaining that his father had to work laboriously to support his sporting ambitions. "The Rs 14 lakh sponsorship allowed me to acquire these prosthetic legs, and now I am gearing up for upcoming competitions. Competing in the Olympics is my dream. My financial situation was challenging, and my father worked hard for me to pursue sports. I am truly thankful to the government for this assistance," Gagdas remarked.
Father's Appreciation for Government Support
Thanabhai Jagtabhai Parmar, Gagdas' father, also conveyed his gratitude towards the government for the help extended to his son. He mentioned, "Gagdas had the opportunity to meet the Chief Minister, who acknowledged his achievements, stating that he has won eight medals and promised support if he continues to work hard. Our financial situation made it difficult to afford the Rs 14 lakh prosthetic legs. I am thankful to the Chief Minister for his assistance."
Focused Training for Upcoming Events
Currently, Gagdas is engaged in regular training sessions, preparing for the 100m and 200m sprint events, with the goal of excelling in both national and international competitions.
Rahul Parmar, Gagdas' Consultant Prosthetist and Orthotist, stated, "We are focusing on his training to enable him to run normally. Practice for the 100m and 200m races has commenced, and all efforts are directed towards that objective."
