Gujarat ATS Nabs Health Worker for Allegedly Spying for Pakistan
Arrest of a Contractual Health Worker in Kutch
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) has apprehended a contractual health worker from Kutch, accused of leaking sensitive military information to a Pakistani spy, officials reported on Saturday.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Sahdevsinh Gohil, was allegedly enticed by a Pakistani agent named Aditi Bharadwaj to disclose details about both ongoing and completed military projects of the Border Security Force and Indian Navy in the region.
Since June 2023, Gohil, who resides in Lakhpat taluka, reportedly transmitted images and videos of various BSF and naval installations in Kutch via WhatsApp in exchange for money, according to Superintendent of Police (ATS) Siddharth Korukonda.
The Pakistani agent initially reached out to Gohil on WhatsApp in June 2023, establishing a friendship before requesting classified information about military facilities and construction activities near his village. Gohil complied, fully aware that he was communicating with a Pakistani spy.
In January 2025, Gohil acquired a SIM card using his Aadhaar number and shared the OTP with the agent, allowing her to access WhatsApp linked to that number from Pakistan.
Following a tip-off, Gohil was summoned to the ATS office for interrogation, where his phone underwent forensic examination, as stated by Korukonda.
The forensic results indicated that both phone numbers used by Gohil for sharing information were registered in Pakistan. Additionally, it was discovered that he had received ₹40,000 in cash from an unknown individual for the information shared.
As a result of the investigation, the ATS arrested Gohil and filed an FIR against him and the Pakistani agent under sections 61 (criminal conspiracy) and 148 (waging war against the government) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
