Urgent Appeal for Prime Minister's Visit

Jorhat/Sivasagar, July 31: As Upper Assam grapples with severe flooding, there is a growing demand for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the affected regions.

The Asam Sahitya Sabha has formally requested the Prime Minister to come to the districts devastated by floods, where countless families are facing significant challenges due to the disaster.

This prominent literary organization has also urged the Prime Minister to classify Assam's persistent flooding as a national disaster, highlighting that over 75 bodies have been recovered and more than 100 individuals are still unaccounted for.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Sabha president Dr. Basanta Kumar Goswami emphasized, "Your visit to the impacted districts would symbolize the nation's solidarity with the people of Assam."

The correspondence indicated that the Prime Minister's presence would boost the morale of flood victims, reassuring them that their plight is recognized at the highest levels, while also enhancing the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts by both Central and State governments.

"During this challenging time, your empathetic presence among those affected would provide significant moral support and strengthen the spirit of national unity and resilience," the letter further stated.

The Sabha pointed out that the annual flooding crisis continues to wreak havoc in the State, destroying homes, farmland, educational institutions, public infrastructure, and cultural sites.

The letter concluded with a strong request for the Prime Minister to visit the flood-affected areas as soon as possible.

In recent days, the Asam Sahitya Sabha has been actively distributing relief supplies to those impacted by the floods in Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, and Charaideo districts.

Additionally, Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi criticized Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a press conference on Thursday for their absence in Upper Assam amid the ongoing flooding crisis.

He also called for the Centre to declare the floods a national disaster, claiming that despite over 100 fatalities in Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts, no such declaration has been made.
