The State Cancer Institute in Jaipur has reached a remarkable milestone in cancer treatment. Medical professionals here successfully performed a haplo-identical bone marrow transplant on a 35-year-old female patient for the second time, a feat considered extremely rare in the country.

The patient was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a condition where the bone marrow produces abnormal myeloid cells, disrupting the formation of healthy red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. After the cancer relapsed, the doctors decided to proceed with a second transplant despite the high risks involved, which turned out to be completely successful.

According to the medical team, instances of a woman undergoing a second successful haplo-identical transplant for the same cancer are exceedingly rare in India. This achievement not only offers renewed hope for the patient but also brings significant relief to blood cancer patients across Rajasthan and the nation.

The State Cancer Institute, affiliated with SMS Hospital, is rapidly advancing in the field of bone marrow transplants and is set to launch the country's largest 50-bed BMT unit soon, which will provide timely and free treatment to thousands of patients.
