Government Assures No Shortage of Fuel Amid Global Tensions
Government Reassures Citizens on Fuel Supply
On Monday, the government reassured the public that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, LPG, or crude oil in the country, urging citizens to remain calm. This statement followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for fuel conservation amid rising global tensions. During an inter-ministerial briefing regarding the situation in West Asia, officials confirmed that India has ample fuel reserves and has taken measures to mitigate the impact of ongoing conflicts in the region.
The Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (Marketing and Refining) stated that India possesses sufficient stocks of crude oil, LPG, petrol, and diesel. He noted that approximately 90% of India's energy imports come from the affected region, but the government has implemented immediate actions to minimize disruptions.
No Need for Panic Buying
Sharma emphasized that there is no need for panic buying, as the country has adequate supplies of all types of fuel. He further explained that the Prime Minister's recent appeal should be viewed as an effort to conserve energy and reduce the economic burden on the nation during this period of global uncertainty. He reiterated that there is no shortage and that the government has taken sufficient steps to ensure minimal impact on supply.
Focus on Energy Conservation
Officials clarified that Prime Minister Modi's message to reduce unnecessary travel and conserve fuel should not be interpreted as a response to an energy crisis, but rather as a call for responsible energy use. The government emphasized that this appeal aims to promote responsible fuel consumption in light of the effects of geopolitical tensions on energy markets.
India's Energy Procurement Efforts
Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, mentioned that India is actively seeking to procure energy from multiple countries as part of its conservation and supply efforts. In response to questions regarding the visit of Iran's Foreign Minister to India, Jaiswal indicated that foreign ministers from BRICS nations and allied countries are expected to visit India, with details to be shared once plans are finalized. He reiterated India's stance on the situation in West Asia, emphasizing the country's long-standing support for peace and dialogue.
