Discussion on Special Intensive Review of Voter Lists

In response to opposition protests, the central government has consented to hold discussions on the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists on Tuesday. Additionally, a discussion on the national song 'Vande Mataram' is scheduled for December 8, with a total of 10 hours allocated for the discussions, which will be initiated by Prime Minister Modi.

Schedule for Upcoming Discussions

The discussions regarding electoral reforms are set for December 9. Central Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will respond to the debate on December 10. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju later confirmed the schedule in a post on social media, stating, "During an all-party meeting chaired by the Honorable Speaker of the Lok Sabha, it was decided to hold a discussion on the 150th anniversary of the national song 'Vande Mataram' on Monday, December 8, starting at 12 PM, followed by a discussion on electoral reforms on Tuesday, December 9, also at 12 PM."

Potential Resolution of Lok Sabha Stalemate

Following an agreement reached in a meeting between leaders of the ruling party and the opposition with Speaker Birla, there are hopes for an end to the ongoing stalemate in the Lok Sabha. After the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, Congress's Chief Whip Kodikunnil Suresh informed reporters, "Decisions regarding the discussions on Vande Mataram and electoral reforms were made after the BAC meeting. The discussion on Vande Mataram will commence on Monday, led by the Prime Minister, followed by discussions on electoral reforms on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibility of extending the time if necessary."

Ongoing Tensions in Parliament

The issue of the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of voter lists has led to a deadlock in the Lok Sabha on both Monday and Tuesday. Members of opposition parties created a ruckus in the house regarding this matter. The winter session of Parliament commenced on Monday.
