Foundation Stone Laid for Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium
During the Bhoomi Poojan and foundation stone laying event for the Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the stadium is being constructed with the backing of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Additionally, another international cricket venue is set to be established in Varanasi with support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Gorakhpur stadium will accommodate 30,000 spectators and will cover an area of 46 acres, complete with dedicated parking facilities. Furthermore, an adjacent 60 acres has been allocated for a sports complex designed for indoor sports. CM Adityanath emphasized that this initiative is a significant advancement in sports infrastructure and youth development, asserting that the 'double-engine government' is committed to providing encroachment-free land to foster future sporting talent.
Shaping the Future of Youth
CM Yogi stated, "With the assistance of BCCI, an international cricket stadium is being constructed in Varanasi. Today, we have laid the foundation stone for another international cricket stadium here, supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This stadium will have a capacity of 30,000 and will span 46 acres, with ample parking available. Additionally, 60 acres have been set aside for a nearby sports complex for indoor games. The double-engine government is ensuring that the land is free from encroachment, where the futures of our youth will be shaped."
Indian Oil's Significant Contribution
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri revealed that the Indian Oil Corporation has pledged Rs 60 crore to the project under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He underscored the government's commitment to promoting sports and fitness, noting that initiatives like the Fit India Movement and Khelo India, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have turned fitness and sports into a national priority.
"I am pleased to announce that Indian Oil Corporation, operating under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has contributed Rs 60 crore to this vital project. With the Fit India Movement and Khelo India, PM Modi has transformed fitness and sports into a mass movement. The Gorakhpur stadium, built on 46 acres and with a capacity of 30,000, will inspire the youth," Puri added.
