Global Protests Erupt in Support of Activist Sonam Wangchuk Amid NEET Exam Controversy

Activists Rally for Sonam Wangchuk

Washington: Demonstrations took place in New York and San Jose organized by a US advocacy group to show support for activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently on an indefinite hunger strike in New Delhi protesting alleged irregularities in the NEET examinations.

Members of 'Hindus for Human Rights' gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Union Square, New York City, and in San Jose on Monday evening, holding signs that expressed their backing for Wangchuk.

The protesters voiced their discontent with the Indian government, calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Similar demonstrations were also reported outside the Indian High Commission in London and the Indian Embassy in Dublin, according to a statement from Hindus for Human Rights on Tuesday.

The group emphasized that their protests conveyed a strong message: students in India deserve fair treatment and respect, whether in New York, London, San Jose, or Dublin.

They stated that the youth of India are entitled to truthful answers and a reliable future, urging the Indian government to engage in open dialogue and accountability.

Earlier this week, Hindus for Human Rights appealed to the Indian government to communicate with Wangchuk and other hunger strikers regarding the NEET exam issues.

On Saturday, Delhi Police transported Wangchuk from the protest site at Jantar Mantar to Safdarjung Hospital after his health declined due to over three weeks of fasting. He has since been relocated to a private hospital following a directive from the Delhi High Court.

Opposition parties have rallied in support of the Cockroach Janata Party, organizing significant protests against the government in Delhi.
