Giriraj Singh Supports Modi's Remarks on West Bengal's Political History
Giriraj Singh's Support for Modi's Statements
On Monday, Union Minister Giriraj Singh backed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments regarding the political history of West Bengal. He accused the Congress party of engaging in appeasement politics after the partition and subsequently neglecting the state. Referring to the violence during the partition, Singh highlighted the significant role played by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee in saving Bengal during that tumultuous period. He further claimed that the policies of Congress left the wounds from the 1946 violence, known as Direct Action Day, unhealed.
Congress's Neglect and TMC's Impact
Singh told reporters that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee was instrumental in protecting Bengal during the partition. However, he noted that even after Congress came to power, the scars from 1946—specifically the attacks and massacres against Hindus—remained. He criticized Congress for its appeasement tactics, which he believes led to the complete deterioration of Bengal, exacerbated by the TMC's alleged looting. With the arrival of the BJP, Singh asserted that the people of Bengal feel as if they are experiencing a second independence and are celebrating this change.
Allegations Against Mamata Banerjee
In response to a question about alleged funding controversies within the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Singh remarked that Mamata Banerjee, who presents herself as a simple woman wearing slippers and a sari, is actually leading a regime characterized by corruption involving her ministers and others. He stated that these issues are now coming to light. During a rally in Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, on June 20, PM Modi emphasized the need to educate the younger generation about the significance of 'West Bengal Day' and the historical events surrounding the state's formation.
Historical Context of Partition
Singh referenced attempts to incorporate undivided Bengal into Pakistan during the partition, noting that leaders like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee opposed these efforts and raised their voices against them. PM Modi had previously stated that it is crucial to repeatedly inform today's youth about the importance of West Bengal Day. He stressed that the younger generation should understand the events of that time when there were attempts to make all of Bengal part of Pakistan, while Congress capitulated to those plotting against it. In April 1947, Mukherjee passed a historic resolution declaring that all of Bengal would not become part of Pakistan and initiated the 'Bengali-Hindu Homeland Movement.'
