Inquiry Initiated by Ghaziabad Police

The Ghaziabad Police have initiated an investigation following the emergence of a video on social media, which depicted a station house officer intimidating residents in temporary settlements in Kaushambi. The officer allegedly claimed to possess a device that could determine if individuals were 'Bangladeshi'.

In the widely circulated footage, the officer from the Kaushambi police station is seen placing what seems to be a smartphone on the back of an elderly man while questioning his nationality.

“The device indicates that you are, doesn’t it?” he asserted.

The elderly man and his family insisted they hailed from Araria district in Bihar, showing their identification documents on a mobile device, but the officers appeared skeptical.

According to the Ghaziabad Police, the incident occurred during an 'area domination' operation, where police were engaging with residents of temporary settlements and slums.

Indirapuram Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhishek Srivastava stated that the officer involved has received a stern warning against repeating such conduct in the future.

In a previous statement, the police clarified that the exercise was not aimed at verifying nationality but was part of routine security measures, as reported by a local media outlet.

These area domination exercises are conducted to enhance public safety, especially during festive seasons like Christmas and New Year, according to police officials.

The family involved in the incident claimed that police officers attempted to intimidate them by repeatedly asserting they were Bangladeshi nationals, as reported by a local media outlet.

Mohammad Saddique, the 76-year-old man featured in the video, recounted that the officers had disputes with his daughter and disregarded the documents they presented. He mentioned that his family has resided in Ghaziabad since 1987.
