General Upendra Dwivedi Highlights Progress in Regional Coordination Through Operation Sindoor
Significance of Operation Sindoor
On Thursday, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi emphasized that Operation Sindoor exemplifies India's advancements in regional coordination. He described the military operation conducted in Pakistani territory as a crucial instance of operational significance for integration. This action followed the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 last year, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Indian tourists, prompting India to target terrorist launch pads in Pakistan.
Addressing Multi-Domain Operations
General Dwivedi stated that Operation Sindoor serves as a powerful tool for India in achieving unity across various domains. However, he stressed the need for further integration and consolidation of these domains. He was speaking at a forum focused on the concept of multi-domain operations (MDO) conducted by friendly forces. The Army Chief also discussed the establishment of an information warfare organization and a psychological defense division following Operation Sindoor.
Challenges Ahead
He noted that 15% of their efforts are directed towards managing disinformation campaigns. Nevertheless, he cautioned that significant challenges persist, particularly in coordinating operations at strategic, operational, and tactical levels, as well as addressing the rising prevalence of hybrid or gray-zone warfare. These tactics typically operate below traditional military thresholds, aiming to exploit the adversary's vulnerabilities. He further mentioned that non-kinetic operations are being prioritized rapidly.
The Future of Warfare
General Dwivedi reiterated that Operation Sindoor is a potent means of advancing India's domain integration. He highlighted the necessity of achieving domain consolidation. His vision for MDO does not merely involve parallel operations across six domains but rather emphasizes their continuous dynamic interaction, where significance and leadership can shift. He underscored that modern warfare transcends geographical boundaries or the dominance of a single military force, being defined instead by ongoing interactions among various domains, stakeholders, and levels of conflict.
